Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D. – Goddesses Never Age: The Secret Prescription for Radiance, Vitality, and Well-Being.

4/25/15

Imagine your favorite rock star was highly educated, a medical doctor in fact, witty, in touch with Divine Love and the wisdom of our own bodies, and you’ll have a fair idea of what it was like to enjoy Dr. Northrup’s presentation. I’m surprised no-one’s underpants were thrown on stage. With music pumping and everyone dancing Northrup entered joyfully, lighting up the room with her personal and professional stories that amused and resonated with the audience. Dr. Northrup’s site is here.

Northrup explained that those on a spiritual journey often need to go ‘beyond the pale,’ or outside of the beliefs of their “tribe” i.e. family, community, or society, as those beliefs can manifest in the endocrine, nervous, and immune systems. For example, a sense of safety, security, and belonging (or a lack thereof) wires itself into the nervous system and bone marrow. Your tribe may not also be on a spiritual journey, so you become programmed to believe in the inevitability of aging. However, Northrup asserts that growing older is mandatory but aging is optional. Aging is a cultural condition most people have bought into, and also the process of layers of dense fascia being produced by the body. She recommends the book The Genius of Flexibility to address this issue. It is entirely possible to reverse the biological aging process. She describes growing older as just the opportunity to increase competence, wisdom, ability, and value you offer to the world.

Northrup offers some keys to health as being:

  • Exalted emotions,

  • Elevated cognition, and

  • Righteous anchor (standing up for yourself).

When you listen, the body will tell you what it needs. One way to check in with your body is to simply ask yourself: how do I feel about this? Or is this ‘up’ for me? I.e. have you been thinking about it, wondering about it, or seem to be receiving the same messages from multiple sources over and over again? This is, of course, different from the repetitive messages for prescription drugs we see over and over on TV and in print.

Northrup is also a proponent of the use and experience of Divine Love as a healing force, which enters the body through the thymus gland. The body itself acts like a crystal, modulating and expanding energy, including Divine Love. As Northrup reminds us, Divine Love doesn’t require self-sacrifice to be effective. During the presentation Northrup led the audience through a simple exercise to connect with the Divine Love all around us, and to allow it to heal an issue in our lives. She also recommended the book Being One with the Divine to practice with at home.
